Lake Waramaug State Park, New Preston, Connecticut

Campground Review from Christine

We tent camped there in June 2008.

Describe your camping trip:

The campsites were way too close together. I believe there were about 75 campsites. For the size of the property they should maybe have 45. We stayed on site 18, which was pretty large and across from one set of bathrooms. There were a lot of kids riding their bikes up and down the road next to us as early as 8 am. Not very peaceful. If the campsites were further apart and had more shrubbery, it might not have seemed so tent city like.
Pros: The lake was very pretty, and it was close to great places to visit. Also the lake had a beach and kayak and canoe rentals.

Cons: The bathrooms always had water on the floors, and they weren't cleaned very well. There were too many sites for such a small campground. The employees taking care of the grounds walked onto your site every night at 10 pm on the dot to tell you not to put anymore logs on the fire and to recognize quiet hours. Where were they at 6 am when the kids were out riding their bikes and screaming already?
Nearby attractions: Hopkins Inn, Hopkins Vineyard, Lake Waramaug.
Further comments: Stay in sites 65-72, if you want more privacy.
