Guide Review - GSI Waffle Iron
I love waffles and maple syrup, so I thought I would try out this waffle iron from GSI Outdoors. Unlike cast-iron pie irons, the GSI waffle iron requires no curing, but I did give it a wash before using it the first time. I used store-bought waffle mix in a box. The mix calls for egg and oil, but I just mix it with water and it works fine. I gave the waffle iron a light coating of spray-on vegetable oil and then poured about 1/3 cup of batter into the iron. After closing the iron, locking the handle, and cooking for four minutes per side over a camp stove set on low, I had hot Belgian waffles. I've tried plain and blueberry waffles so far. Both cleaned up with just a wet wash rag. A couple waffles and a hot cup of coffee gave my day a good start. I bought mine at Campmor on 3/5/2006 for $14.99
